SPRING FOR PASTELS!

By Christa Sorauf

We’ve been working on a new collection for a major manufacturer so I’ve been looking at PANTONE’s color trends for Spring/Summer 2015 and pastels are popping up everywhere as you can see below…

When I mentioned the pastel trends to a group on women I was talking to, one woman said, “Eww, I hate pastels!” And I guess many associate pastels with baby colors and a very juvenile look. BUT, pastels when combined with creams, golds and silvers can look very chic, sophisticated and even ethereal as you can see in this gorgeous kitchen below…

These blue walls with a gold chandelier and pastel modern art create a lovely setting that just sings spring…

Pretty pinks combined with creams and gold are feminine and chic but not too sweet…

These pretty pastels are also a great counterpoint to gray and can add a luxe touch to any environment. You’ll also see pastels popping up in fashion and they’re a great way to lighten up your wardrobe after a long winter, plus they look great with a tan!

Timeless Style

By gregorie

It’s been said that we southerners don’t let go of the past. Why should we when there is so much to learn from the ones who came before us? I recently attended my aunt’s funeral, she was 88. It was a gorgeous graveside service. The weather was perfect with the warmth of the sun on our backs and the wind rustling high above in the hundred year old oaks. It was time for reflection and celebration of a life well lived.

I subscribe to holding on to the past. Whether it’s retelling the same stories over and over, or surrounding ourselves with family heirlooms. My grandmother is always with me as I have several of her treasures placed about my home. My sister, Boo and I have passion for mixing old and new. We want to be good custodians and hope these relics will be taken care of by the next generation.

If timeless style is your goal then achieving it can be done with treasures from the past.  Decorating in only the latest trends wouldn’t tell a story. A well decorated room tells something about that person. Where they’ve been, what they love and how they want to be perceived.

The day after the funeral I was packing up at my sisters home. She handed me a tablecloth and napkins that belonged to our great grandmothers. Beautifully crocheted in cream with hints of blue and gray stitching, it has it’s own story. I am grateful for the opportunity to give it new life.

Spring FabuLESSness!

By Christa Sorauf

This is the busiest time of year for our licensed product design business and we’re literally working day and night on new collections for two new amazing partners but all work and no play makes for a cranky Christa so I took a few hours off and headed to Marshall’s Home Goods. My intention was to pick up some mongolian wool pillows for a client’s daughter’s playroom and I decided to pick up a few for myself, which I threw on my cream living room couches to add a little texture, glam and contrast to the colorful Trina Turks…

MongolianPillow

I also found this fabulous Nicole Miller lacquer box and for $16, I couldn’t resist…

NicoleMillerBox

I brightened up my kitchen banquette with 2 flowered and 2 apricot pillows…

Pillows

And created a new centerpiece with a blinged out bunny for spring and our favorite banagrams game in an apothecary jar…

BunnyCenterpiece I especially love this bee broach I found…

BunnyCloseUp

I also found the Greek key tray below for next to nothing, also just $16, and it’s ideal to put underneath an orchid…

RoundTray

And I can never resist a stroll down the shoe aisle, where I fell head over heels for these BCBGs, just $39…

Shoe

Although I picked up just a few things, it was a breath of fresh air for my home and a great way to brighten a couple of rooms for next to nothing.
